What if I change internet providers or get a new Wi-Fi router?
You may need to reconnect your inverter to your new Wi-Fi router. Here's how to do it for AlphaESS systems.
If you have purchased a new internet router, you will need to connect it to your inverter. It's important you get your inverter back online as soon as you can, so that critical faults and alarms can be monitored. It's also required by the inverter manufacturer, the network provider and by us. Plus, an online inverter means you can monitor your energy use and earn VPP Rewards.
If you are having trouble connecting your new router, try the options below to get your connected:
Option 1 - Use your previous router (if available)
If you still have the old router that the inverter previously connected to, you can connect it to your current router using a standard Ethernet/data cable. This will allow the old router to operate as a secondary Wi-Fi network in your home.
Because the inverter was previously connected to this router, it may automatically reconnect. If it does not connect straight away, please restart the inverter so it can search for available networks again. When the inverter restarts, it will attempt to reconnect to any network it was previously paired with.
If you would like assistance with this step, read this article or give us a call and we can guide you through the restart process over the phone.
Option 2 – Create a separate 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network
You can contact your internet provider or an IT technician and ask them to create a separate Wi-Fi network on your router (sometimes called a guest network).
This network should be configured as:
-
2.4 GHz frequency
- Wi-Fi standard: 802.11 b/g/n
It is also important that this network has a different name from your main Wi-Fi network so it can be easily identified.
Once it is created, you can open the AlphaESS app, go to the network/connectivity settings, and select this new network so the inverter can connect to it.
Option 3 – Hardwired connection
If the above options are not suitable, the inverter can also be connected directly to the router using an Ethernet cable. Depending on the distance between the router and the inverter, this may require a technician.
