Some solar panels will benefit from a professional clean.
Rainfall washes away the majority of dust and grime that will build up on solar panels. However, if you live in an area prone to corrosion, such as near a beach or areas with excess dust (where building and construction are taking place, for example), or have birds perching near your panels, regular cleaning is recommended to improve performance.
If you live in a low rainfall area, then your panels will also benefit from regular cleaning.
The best way to clean solar panels is by enlisting a professional. There are many businesses operating across Australia that can provide a safe and effective solution.
If you are attempting to clean your solar panels yourself, please keep the following in mind.
- Turn off your system at the inverter before cleaning.
- Clean early in the morning before your panels heat up.
- Overcast days are preferable to reduce the risk of water evaporating too quickly.
- Clean from ground level - this is effective for removing most dust and debris. It's also the safest.
- Point your hose at your panels for a few minutes to ensure a thorough clean.
Note that cleaning of solar panels is not included in your Plico service agreement.
